		Frustration by Many Spills Over via Email Inbox Overflows with Comments

Girari Sustainable Event Furnishings Hosted a Nine Team Table Decorating Competition
November 18 at the Luxe Hotel Sunset Blvd.

Girari's email Inbox was overflowing last month when emotional invitees wrote us expressing how sad and frustrated they
were about not being able to attend the Shootout in person. (OK, I know, but it did get you reading this . . .)

Doyle Borden's interpretation of Girari's 34x90 rectangular glass dining table was spot on and Doyle won Girari's First Place, the
People's Choice Award and the Luxe Hotel's Award, almost sweeping the top prizes. You can see from the photos below
that his design was not only stunningly beautiful, but properly matched the rectangular lines of the table. No one is counting,
but Doyle walked away with $5,000 in rental credits from Girari, a complementary stay at the Luxe Hotel, and an acrylic plaque.

Second Place($2,000 in credits) went to Jenny Guthrie ,Third Place($1,000) to Joella Hopkins and Fourth Place($1,000) to Lynn
Whittenberg. The Cort Award($1,000 in Cort rental credits) also went to Joella Hopkins.

A first for the Shootout, each judge (Randy Fuhrman, Joe Moller, Alex Rembach, Ada Chan and Pamela Ferrari) scored first
place through fourth place winners exactly in that order. If, after looking over the photos below, you don't agree with the

The sponsors went all out for the Shootout, offering a wonderful venue, comfortable lounge, great food, drinks and
entertainment, including our new "dueling M.C.'s", Jorge Lopez and Laurent Minitti, who kept the pace lively during the
awards period ceremony.

For 2010, we expect to hold the Shootout in September. Watch for the "Call For Teams" eBlast,
field a team and you too can be subjected to the stomach turning, panicky feeling while you wait for the judges' decisions.

This is a Call for Teams (You Have One Week to Enter)

The Competition

How it works: Girari will provide glass topped tables in different shapes with matching chairs and stools. The 12 teams will be randomly assigned tables two weeks before the event and will have five hours on the day of the Shootout to decorate them.

This is a chance to express yourself and win serious prizes! The tables will be judged on creativity, workmanship and the "wow" factor. Finally, a chance to decorate a table your way without those pesky budget constraints. And maybe walk away with a first place prize of $5,000 (in the form of furniture rental credits from Girari).

This year there will be over $12,000.00 in prizes awarded! And, there will be additional prizes awarded by our Sponsors.

Value Collection of Glass Tables

These table designs are available in both dining height and bar height.

The table shapes are rectangular and round. The rectangular banquet tables are either 30x60, or 34x90, and seat six to ten. The round tables are either 60D, seating for eight to ten, or a pedestal table 30D, seating from two to four.

Rental prices range from $85 to $125 for the rectangular tables and $48 to $95 for the round glass tables.

CASE STUDY:
The Center College of Design's Sustainable Mobility Summit

Pasadena's Art Center College of Design has a reputation for cutting edge design and when the members of their event department requested furniture for an international summit on Sustainable Mobility, we were very interested.

After the conference, I asked Gwen Hourihan from the event department about the Summit:

1. Why did you choose a "green theme"? As part of Art Centers mission to apply education and design as tools for solving contemporary issuesand building on our deep ties to the automotive industryin 2007 Art Center launched a series of Summits (http://www.artcenter.edu/summit) aimed at developing innovative solutions for sustainable mobility.

2. What elements of sustainable design and decor did you find most important to include? Showcasing student work and students efforts to design in a sustainable manner were most important. Not only does it underscore the Colleges educational mission, but also it serves as an example to influential Summit attendees and speakers that the next generation is serious about creating sustainable solutions. Among our student displays were premium tote bags designed using post combat military truck tarps, and bamboo Laptop Sticks designed to improve airflow to cool notebook computers and help improve posture.

3. How did you find your sustainable resources? Art Center has an extremely knowledgeable faculty and student body eager to promote sustainable resources, which were often researched by a core team of Summit organizers.

4. What were your guests reactions to your theme? The success of the series of Art Center Summits has been overwhelmingweve seen brilliant minds come together to plan the future of cities, automobiles and energyand our guests are very much a part of that dialogue.

5. What were the guests reactions to Giraris furniture? Favorable. We heard many favorable comments about having tables for attendees to write on during the programs, and about the style and sustainability of the materials.

6. What will you do for your next green themed event? After three successful Summits, College leadership, staff, faculty and students are already considering what the next green themed event will be. No matter the theme of future events, sustainability will be an underlying focus.

For those who are not familiar with our Industry event for event producers, designers, enthusiasts and interior designers, Girari hosts an annual competition to see which teams can create the most impressive, beautiful and high impact decorated tables.

Each of the 12 glass and acrylic tables is a different shape, size and height, making the judging (done by the winners of last year's competition) even more difficult. Any team can enter; in the certain event that more than a dozen teams enter, we draw from the pool of entrants, and those teams not chosen receive a entrance preference for the following year's competition.

CASE STUDY:
The National Kidney Foundation's Sustainable Event

It is fashionable to talk about "greening" one's events, but there has been more smoke than fire, with sustainable considerations giving way to budgetary ones. But one event producer, Stephanie Twerdahl, Development Director for The National Kidney Foundation of Southern California, balanced these conflicting goals to create a very "green" event.

I had an opportunity to talk with Stephanie recently about her award winning fundraiser, "Great Chefs of Los Angeles". She has a lot to say:

1. Why did you choose a "green theme"? For over two decades "Great Chefs of Los Angeles" has been a successful fundraising event which supports those in the community affected by kidney disease. This year we chose to increase the positive impact of our event by advocating not only healthy diet choices through organic foods, but additionally environmental sustainability throughout all aspects of our event. Recognizing the importance of environmental consciousness is a responsibility that all corporations, non-profits, and households alike must to begin to take seriously.

2. What elements of sustainable design and decor did you find most important to include? It was important not to sacrifice quality or the overall aesthetics of design for the sophisticated look we strove to achieve at this event.

3. Which elements did you find you simply couldn�t fit into your budget? We found that elements such as organic/eco-friendly linens and umbrellas made of eco-friendly materials were out of our budget at this particular time. The use of Girari Furniture drastically reduced our need for eco-friendly linens though because the tables� modern elegance did not call for the use of any linens.

4. How did you find your sustainable resources? We located our sustainable resources utilizing magazines and publications focused on organic & healthy living, event planning magazines, and internet resources dedicated to sustainability and the health of our planet.

5. What were your guests� reactions to your theme? The guests� reaction to the event�s theme �Go Green, Go Organic� was incredibly positive and they liked the idea that a health organization could produce an event that not only raised awareness about a growing health epidemic but also one that positively impacted our planet. This year�s theme also attracted many new attendees who were interested in tasting the delectable organic dishes and taking part in a �green� and �eco-friendly� event. Additionally, there was a great deal of positive feedback about the eco-friendly Sysco flatware we chose to use; made from corn by-products, all of the flatware was biodegradable.

6. What were the guests� reactions to Girari�s furniture? Guests truly enjoyed the chic look of the lounge areas. The clean lines of the modern Girari furniture were complimented with an array of eco-friendly greenery. Many of the guests commented on how the furniture was modern and hip, yet very inviting at the same time. The white vegan leather lounges were a huge hit for many of the guests who were shocked by its realistic texture. Attendees at the event commented numerous times that they enjoyed the low sleek lounge furniture and preferred it to the use of the traditional table rounds with linens and chairs.

7. What will you do for your next green themed event? The next events consist of a �Black-Tie� Dinner Gala and The Second Annual NKF Celebrity Golf Tournament hosted by George Lopez, and the NKFSC is committed to hosting �green� events by utilizing as many sustainable products at the event as possible. Anywhere organic, biodegradable and sustainable products can be used, whether those are floral elements, food or furniture, we will make that substitution to ensure our commitment to a green event. These events are in their beginning planning stages so details are not exact.

Tiffany Fairbrother wins Bamboo Topped Table Rental

Tiffany Fairbrother, Interior Designer, at Langdon Wilson, a Los Angeles architectural firm, correctly guessed that our Bamboo Topped Tables are 99% sustainable. She was one of 53 people who correctly guessed the percentage, so she was both correct and lucky.

It is not surprising that Tiffany guessed correctly. She is LEED's certified, so that gave her a bit of an edge.

Now, all you have to do to claim your prize is complete our standard 28 page certification form (in triplicate), so we know you are not related to anyone at Girari, a U.S. citizen, voted for Obama, etc. . . .

This is our greenest line of tables and chairs available to the event industry. We combined recycled cast aluminum bases and legs with 3/4 inch thick vertical cut, caramelized bamboo tops to offer the highest sustainability yet in event furniture.

These bamboo topped tables are finished with hand rubbed Tung oil(made from the pressed seed from the nut of the Tung tree) and are available in a full range of sizes: seating for two, four, eight and ten. Available in heights: bar, dining and coffee. Table top shapes include rounded square, rounded rectangle and just plain round.

Introducing a New Family of Clear Acrylic Box Tables

Girari has created a collection of clear acryic box tables, with seating from six to ten, in dining and bar heights.

Banquet table dimensions are 30x72 and 30x96, plus bar table versions of 36x36.

Virtually anything 3 inches high or less can be placed into the boxes, including floral, aquatic and memorabilia. (we have even seen a snake put into a "Garden of Eden" themed table-credit to Calamigos Ranch)

These versatile tables can be used for banquet dining, bar dining, and "greeting" tables. They really set the tone for the decor when creating a "Girari" look.

Randy Fuhrman Events Wins Girari's Spring Outdoor Table Decorating Shootout

Everything went well for Girari's Spring Decorating Shootout: the weather was warm, the Century Plaza's poolside patio was welcoming and the decorating teams went all out creating excitingly different decor on Girari's glass tables.

The table decor overall was of such quality it was extremely tough for the judges. In addition to the one hour they took to individually view the nine tables, the judges sequestered themselves at the patio lounge for an additional hour of discussion . . .

Randy Fuhrman Events was awarded First Place($5,000 in rental credit from Girari), followed by Calamigos Ranch($2,000),Joe Moller Events($1,000) Fresh Events($1,000) and Sterling Engagements($1,000). On the judges' score cards there weren't many points separating the teams.

Pamela Ferrari Productions won the Peoples Choice Award, a tally of the event guests' votes.

Sterling Engagements also won the Hyatt award, chosen by the Hyatt event department staff as the decorated table they would most like to have in their hotel.

And a "first" for our event: Calamigos Ranch added an exciting, although risky, surprise in its decor. See if you can spot it in the team photos below.

Girari Sustainable Event Furnishings Hosts an Eleven Team Table Decorating Contest

If you did not attend last September's Shootout, you really don't want to miss this spring decorating event; RSVP now to reserve your spot as we have an absolute limit of 1,000 guests. You know, fire regulations and all that.
Teams from California, Nevada and Arizona are coming together to create an eleven table, region-wide competition. In addition, we have for your enjoyment three showcase tables:

Wildflower Linens - Mary Anne Riley will decorate a showcase table demonstrating how the tasteful Use of linens can complement a glass topped table.

Girari will Showcase a custom gold finished Penta table, decorated by Alice Charlier, surrounded by custom gold finished Alta chairs w/red upholstered seats (these chairs were used at the recent Academy Awards' Governor's Ball).

And, if all this is not enough, we have secured a "near celebrity" tabletop decorator (ongoing negotiations prevent us from disclosing his name at this time) to showcase a radical look in tabletop decor. We have seen his work, and can promise you that you have never seen anything like it before. Really.

THE PLAN: Girari, the leading provider of and the first to debut an eco-sensitive rental line of glass/acrylic tables and seating, offers its tables as a �blank canvas� to Event Producers, Tabletop Decorators, and Floral Designers who will combine to form competing project teams for a �Tabletop Decorating Shootout�. The theatrical canvas will be made up of different and challenging banquet table configurations at both dining and bar heights. Winners will be announced at 7:30 p.m.

THE VENUE: Hyatt Regency Century Plaza, 2025 Avenue of the Stars, Los Angeles, CA 90067 (scroll down for map)

THE PURPOSE: To bring attention to the event production industry�s highly dramatic aesthetic. Prizes to be awarded to the winning teams include $5,000, $2,000, and (three) $1,000 in Girari's event furniture rental credits (respectively for 1st, 2nd 3rd, 4th and 5th place). A "People�s Choice Award" chosen by event attendees will also be awarded, plus a "Hyatt" award and a "Most Sustainable Decor" award.

This is a Call for Teams
(and "Save The Date")

The Competition

Girari will Provide Glass Banquet Tables in Triangular, Rounded Square and Pentagonal Shapes and in Both Dining and Bar Heights. Tables Sets Include Chairs or Stools.

On Monday, March 10, Teams will be Assigned Tables Randomly.

On Thursday, April 10, Starting at Eight A.M., Teams will have Eight Hours to Decorate their Tables. At Four P.M., Our Judges will Examine the Decorated Tables.

From Five P.M. to Eight P.M., There will be a Party to View the Decorated Tables and at Eight P.M., the Winners will be Announced.

Over $10,000.00 in Awards! These will be in the Form of Credits on Girari Furniture.
